I just got back from a week in Malta after staying at the absolutely awful Palm Court Hotel in Qawra.
Described as ‘Fawlty Towers’ by the locals, The Palm Court Hotel in Qawra is the worst hotel ever. It is dull, damp dirty and damn right depressing. The food at The Palm Court was lackluster and full of contempt, I can’t imagine how they can cook ‘food’ so badly. The entertainment was amazing : DJ Mario, silence, karaoke and more silence. DJ Mario rocks my socks, he is a taxi driver when he isn’t spewing out amazingly bad tunes. The hotel needs a good lick of paint and a dash of trinitrotoluene.
As for the island itself, it was hot with temperatures reaching 40 degrees a couple of times. Some of the streets in Malta are visually amazing but most are steep with the pavements in bad conditions. I would imagine that they would be very annoying to live in due to the conditions - even walking to the shops was a danger! It did provide a good testing ground for my new digital camera with photo opportunities galore.
The buses were crazy, they looked like something from the 1960s. On the way back from the beach on Saturday, our bus driver squared up to a passenger, shouting and swearing at him over an out of date bus pass. Of course you wouldn’t see a bus driver in the UK square up to a passenger because the bus driver would get stabbed and or shot.
