I’m not complaining, I was just saying.

May 19, 2009 by Greg

Apparently trying to do something impressive at a young age shouldn’t be done. We are students and that’s all we should be. It’s definitely the message I get from most people. I think it’s naive. I tried to drop ICT a couple of months ago because I was majorly behind with coursework, and I was given the option to either continue with the course or leave the college. I’m predicted an E, but probably will get a U. I didn’t have time to continue the subject, and my result in ICT reflects that. I was focusing at launching my own business. At the time, my tutor team leader told me: I have all my priorities wrong. But I think she’s mistaken because priorities are personal and can’t really be judged in that way.

But it’s beyond pathetic attempts at authority in college. We get stopped in the streets by the police, just for being kids. A few weeks ago, I was searched for being in Bushy Park at 9pm and having the nerve to say that I had nothing suspicious on me. And walking out of college two weeks ago, I was stopped by a police officer who asked me if I was a student at the college. Well yes, I don’t just hang around a college for the hell of it. I do hate the place, you know.

And, yes. I am aware that a large amount of the children in this country are mouthy little shits who cause trouble, all the time. For example: last Friday, I saw three examples of idiotic idiots walking around as if they owned the place, issuing threats and smashing bottles. Yet we were approached by the police three times in one night for doing absolutely nothing. And I highly doubt that the troublemakers they were even spoken to. And this Friday we were approached and actually attacked by a bunch of kids for ‘stealing their bench’. And a ‘police officer’ treated us as if we were in the wrong. We shouldn’t be treated as if we have done something wrong unless they have been made aware or seen us committing a crime.

I’m not too sure what I’m trying to say anymore. Everyone hates the youth of today, including me. I’m trying desperately hard to get somewhere before college ends to ensure that everything works out well once I leave, but it often proves impossible. The very fact that my business is profitable suggests that anything can be done, despite the lack of funding and support for anyone under the age of 18. Surely we, as a country, should be encouraging business and giving kids something to do rather than chucking ineffective police officers at people who aren’t causing the problem.

Just give me an ASBO. Society is fucked anyway.

  1. Fuck what the college says. You’re doing everything right.
It’s just they’ve only ever seen people fail at this before and think they know best.

The police are begining to really annoy me. The brutality. The way they treat under 18s. Their complete contempt to everybody and everything.
I hope after the next general election the new government will throw them into reform.
    They probably won’t though :/

Also, it’s fair enough that they check if you go to the college or not… I DID get in there before…

An ASBO wouldn’t matter a great deal if you own your own company anyway. :P

    KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

  2. True say man, true say.

Still, put yourself in their situation…one-day, you’ll be one of those adults, having to deal with under-18s who have little respect for authority…

Just another example of where our ‘liberal’ secular society has taken us.

  3. You know, I agree with everything you say but I can’t help but agree with what the police did. My theory is that teenagers start to grieve for their idealistic dream of the way that they thought the world was. This is your anger stage, the police on the other hand have reached the stage of acceptance. They know better than to be naive, they trust no-one and suspect everyone because they’re all to aware that England has no culture anymore, the traditional values that you think police should be following such as “innocent until proven guilty” don’t exist anymore.
Don’t take the element of bad luck from the past few weeks to heart here :)

  4. I feel like quoting some Frank Turner right now. But according to one of the many police officers that has stopped us: Thatcher isn’t to blame!

It’s not the fact that we keep on getting stopped, but it’s the fact that the violent bunch of bastard little shits are free to roam around the street causing trouble. The fact is - there is nothing to do for kids. There is no where to go. There are solutions out there, I’m not sure I have the answers but I can always try. I’m supposed to be a businessman after all. As I say: I’m not complaining, I was just saying.

Both Frank Turner and Andy Hull got the better of me in this comment. :P

  5. I enjoyed reading your new blog entry. I feel the same way about society as you do. Don’t really have anything to comment on; just the fact that I enjoy reading your blog and am looking forward to the next entry :)

  7. thats fair enough actually, its a £30 for cycling on a pavement which is retarded, but you should’nt direct your anger at the police but at this stupid govenment who is issuing the directives for them to follow, and untill there is a major ideological shift in sociaty then its going to stay like that ( yes Steve even the Tories) so all in all i blame capitlaism

  8. Considering we are in a global recession and banks (and some businesses) are being nationalised, I can safely say that it’s not capitalism Phil. It’s the way the government is spending our money, rather than the corporations. And the way that some members of society believe that they are superior, when in actual fact they are simply lost in the system and can’t find their rightful place.

There is no way we will see a ‘major ideological shift in society’ to the point where your views are agreed with by general society. If anything, an introduction of far left, or far right views for that matter, will cause a greater problem than the ones we have at the moment. When you start a full time job, then I’m sure you’ll understand why your communist views simply cannot work in modern society.

  9. i owuld be perfectly happy with European style Socialism as opposed to the free-wheeling American variety employed here, that and the weakenss of politicians to deal with the scum. the system is an outdated one fit for the 19th centuray; the state needs to deal with it; as long as its not our current politicians haha
